| How do I get referred? It is best to first discuss your condition with your GP, who will determine that a gastroenterological referral is necessary and also provide you with a letter of referral that details your symptoms, and also outlines the context of past medical history, family history, medications, etc. You should also seek authorisation from your insurance company, unless you are self-paying. What happens next? Contact Dr Bansi's private secretary on 020-8741 0700 (or click here) to book an initial appointment at a venue to suit you. At your first consultation it will be determined what, if any, investigations may be required. At this stage you should inform your insurance company to obtain an authorisation code (N.B. some insurance policies do not cover procedures at the Cromwell Hospital, so please check if this is an option). You will require a follow-up appointment to discuss any blood tests, histology results, etc. you may have had. You may or may not require further treatment and/or investigation at this stage. What tests will I have? These may initially include blood, urine and stool tests. On your initial visit you may also have a rigid sigmoidoscopy (a visualisation of the lining of the large bowel), if relevant. You may also require an ultrasound examination and endoscopy examination, which can be arranged for a mutually convenient time. What treatment could I expect to receive? This would clearly depend on your symptoms, but there are medications and lifestyle changes that can be discussed and initiated in relation to many gastroenterological conditions. |
